USING SKYPE IN THE LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

Skype is an instructional tool that provides fantastic opportunities for MFL teachers and students and it brings the curriculum to life by experiencing real-time the people, places and things we are studying.

There are lot of ways to use Skype during our language lessons and it can be an awesome tool to help with intercultural understanding, and improve the listening and speaking skill of our students.

We can connect our class with a class from abroad and learn about their cultures, way of life, education systems or simply chat about our favourite food. Also its great to close a Pen Pal project with a Skype lesson, so our students will meet their pen Pals “face to face”, they love it!!

Skype Translator is another great feature we teachers can use during our language lesson, and It will let our students to practice the language they are learning. In addition to translate their voices they will also be able to read the subtitles in the call window.

Have a look to the website “Skype in the Classroom”, a partnership between Skype and the British Council that try to connect schools around the world.
